AIChE PTF Awards Page

General Guidelines (Please carefully review award specific guidelines before submitting a nomination):

The Nomination process is in two steps:

(1) Short form due by April 30, 2017, proving the name of nominee, and up to five names of those who will provide letters of support, along with their PTF membership status, click here (Note: If the link doesn't work with Internet Explorer, go to Google webpage and put the link in the search line).

(2) Full package due by May 20, 2017, containing items specific to each award

If the nominee has previously received any award from AIChE or one of its divisions/forums, an explicit statement of new accomplishments or work over and above those cited for the earlier award(s) must be included (max. of one double spaced page).

Selected bibliography (including books, patents, and major papers published).

NOTE:  It is required that the nominators are current PTF members

  • For the PTF Lifetime Achievement Award, at least one of the support letters must be from a former PTF Award winner.

Nominees must be PTF members

  • In a given year, the same person cannot win more than one PTF award
  • Nominees must have been the member of AIChE-PTF for prior 3 calendar years (since 2014); with one exception:
  • Best PhD must be a current member at the time of nomination and the year of award

Wait period for nomination after previous award

  • A former PTF award winner cannot be nominated for another award for at least three years (after 2014) after receiving any previous PTF award

You will be contacted regarding the package submission process after the nomination you made is received. 


Elsevier Particle Technology Forum Lifetime Achievement Award

This award recognizes a forum member's lifetime outstanding scientific/technical contributions to the field of particle technology, as well as leadership in promoting scholarship, research, development, service and/or education in this field. The award is contingent on a candidate meeting the above criteria and may not be awarded every year.

Selection criteria:

  1. Nominee must have been the member of AIChE-PTF for prior 3 calendar years at time of nomination and have not won another PTF award in previous three calendar years
  2. An outstanding contributor to the field of particle technology who has also made significant lifetime contributions to PTF through their scholarship, service and enthusiasm for the field 
  3. The awardee will deliver a presentation at the AIChE Annual Meeting in a PTF award session

  4. The nominator must be a current PTF member, and at least one letter of support from a prior PTF award winner in any category
  5. If the nominee has previously received any award from AIChE or one of its divisions/forums, an explicit statement of new accomplishments or work over and above those cited for the earlier award(s) must be included (max. of one double spaced page).

SABIC Young Professional Award

This award recognizes outstanding and internationally recognized contributions in particle technology by a young professional under 40 years old.

Selection criteria: 

  1. Nominee must have been the member of AIChE-PTF for prior 3 calendar years at time of nomination and have not won another PTF award in previous three calendar years
  2. An outstanding contribution to the field of particle technology, such as innovation, breakthrough research demonstrated through patents and publications; and
  3. Service to the particle technology community by way of education, leadership, stewardship and collaboration with other disciplines of engineering and science
  4. Receipt of last degree within the past 7 calendar years during the year when Award may be made
  5. The awardee needs to submit a short article for the PTF Newsletter and may be asked to present at the AIChE Annual Meeting in a PTF sponsored session

DSM Science and Technology Award

The award recognizes and rewards excellence in innovative PhD research in polymer technology. The theme for the 2015 award is Innovative Polymerization Processes for Novel Performance Materials. Nominations must relate to PhD research on topics related to the development of polymerization process technologies and polymerization processes for novel polymeric performance materials.

Award:  Plaque and $5,000 USD Honorarium


PTF Service Award (Sponsor: ANSYS)

Awarded to candidates who have made significant contributions to PTF through their service and enthusiasm for the field. The award is contingent on a candidate meeting the above criteria and may not be awarded every year.

George Klinzing Best PhD Award

This award recognizes an outstanding dissertation by an individual who has earned a doctoral degree. The dissertation can be in any discipline in the physical, biomedical or engineering sciences, with particle science and engineering as its focus.

Selection criteria:

  1. Nominee must be a current member of AIChE-PTF at time of nomination and have not won another PTF award in previous three calendar years
  2. An outstanding original dissertation, with relevance to particle technology
  3. The nominee must have received a doctoral degree within the last three calendar years prior to the year the award is given (2014 – current)
  4. Based only on the contributions made during the course of PhD

  1. Filled nomination form (a blank form which will be sent to you after your nomination is received)
  2. A letter of nomination from the dissertation advisor, must be a current PTF member, should include a critical review stating the value of the dissertation in terms of its originality, significance, and potential applications in the field of particle science and technology. It should also convey how doctoral research contributed to a significant advance or breakthrough in particle technology that will last for a long time. The supporting letters may focus on any of these attributes.
  3. An extended abstract of up to six pages including a list of refereed publications resulting directly from that dissertation.
  4. At least three and no more than four supporting letters (not counting the nomination letter from the dissertation advisor), all of which must be from institutions outside the one granting the dissertation. One of the letters must be from industry.  
  5. If the nominee has previously received any award from AIChE or one of its divisions/forums, an explicit statement of new accomplishments or work over and above those cited for the earlier award(s) must be included (max. of one double spaced page).

This award recognizes an individual's recent outstanding scientific/technical accomplishment which has made a significant impact in the field of fluid particle systems or in a related field with potential for cross fertilization with relevance to the topics of interest to PTF community. The award is contingent on a candidate meeting the above criteria and may not be awarded every year.

 Selection criteria: 

  1. Nominee must have been the member of AIChE-PTF for prior 3 calendar years at time of nomination and have not won another PTF award in previous three calendar years
  2. An outstanding scientific/technical accomplishment which has made a significant impact in the field of fluid particle systems or in a related field with potential for cross fertilization with relevance to the topics of interest to PTF community

Dow Particle Processing Recognition Award (formerly Fluidization Process Award)

Offered every odd year. The award recognizes a Particle Technology Forum member who has made significant contribution to the science and technology of particle processing in its commercialization, and who has shown leadership in the engineering community.

Selection criteria: 

  1. Nominee must have been the member of AIChE-PTF for prior 3 calendar years and have not won another PTF award in previous three calendar years 
  2. An outstanding contribution to the science and technology of particle processing in its commercialization
  3. The awardee has shown leadership in the engineering community
